What is chiropractic?
Q. What is chiropractic? (Excerpted from the American Chiropractic Association)
A. Chiropractic is a health care profession that focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system, and the effects of these disorders on general health. Chiropractic care is used most often to treat neuromusculoskeletal complaints, including but not limited to back pain, neck pain, pain in the joints of the arms or legs, and headaches.

Chiropractors have broad diagnostic skills and are also trained to recommend therapeutic and rehabilitative exercises, as well as to provide nutritional, dietary and lifestyle counseling.

The purpose of chiropractic manipulation is to restore joint mobility by manually applying a controlled force into joints that have become restricted in their movement as a result of a tissue injury. Injured tissues undergo physical and chemical changes that can cause inflammation, pain, and diminished function. Manipulation, or adjustment of the affected joint and tissues, restores mobility, thereby alleviating pain and muscle tightness, and allowing tissues to heal.

Chiropractic Adjustments
Q. Do adjustments hurt?
A. Adjustments are virtually painless. Some people feel a brief moment of discomfort which is immediately replaced with a sense of relief and calm as the body realigns itself.

Q. Is it safe?
A. Chiropractic care is very safe when conducted by a licensed, experienced professional.

Q. Do I have to be an athlete to come here?
A. No, we have patients from all walks of life.

Q. I just had surgery, can you help me?
A. Yes, we help patients before, during and after surgery.

Q. Do you have to crack my neck?
A. No, not every patient has cervical manipulation.

The Healing Process
Q. How long will my recovery take?
A. Recovery depends on the injury and your health status. As a general rule we will see you more in the first few weeks. This is then decreased as you progress and improve. Of course, each patients recovery varies.

Q. Why do I see more than one doctor?
A. We take a team approach to get you the best combined therapy possible to heal you the fastest.

Q. I work out at least three times per week…why do I have to do exercises here?
A. The muscle groups we need to concentrate on may be overlooked in your exercise regime. We target specific muscles and on proper form.

We will teach you how to help your rehabilitation. Our goal is to help you become more self-sufficient and take an active role in your healing.
